Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need First Aid and CPR certification before participating in a CPTN workshop?

No – you do not need a current First Aid or CPR/AED certification just to take part in a workshop for educational purposes.

Note: First Aid/CPR is one part of the requirements to attain and maintain your CPTN certification status.

Do I have to take the "The Art & Science" workshop to start with CPTN?

No – taking the workshop is optional. It's primarily recommended for those who are new to fitness, coming from a non-fitness background, or want a strong theoretical foundation before certification.

What is a Continuing Education Credit (CEC), and how do workshops fit in?

A CEC is the unit CPTN uses for continuing education. Workshops – like other CPTN courses or conferences – count as CEC-earning activities.

If you already hold a CPTN certification, attending approved workshops helps you accumulate the required CECs to maintain or renew your certification.

Can I take workshops not offered by CPTN to use towards renewal requirements?

Yes – you can petition for CEC credit for related workshops from other providers. Use the CPTN CEC Petitions Online Form, submit your proof of completion and the required course outline, and if approved, CPTN will grant credit toward your continuing education requirements.

What happens to my membership or certification status if I don't renew on time?
  • For non-certified members: If your membership expires, you lose access to member rates, Members Portal resources, and workshop discounts.
  • For certified trainers: Certifications and member accounts become invalid if renewal requirements (including CECs, current First Aid/CPR, documentation) are not submitted before expiration.
