Do I have to be a certified personal trainer to be a CPTN member?

No – you can join CPTN as a non-certified member. But only certified CPTN personal trainers are eligible to be listed on the public "Find A Trainer" directory.

How does the CPTN-CPT certification process work (theory + practical)?

You begin with study materials or an optional workshop, then take the online Theory Exam (75 % pass mark). Once you pass, you complete the Practical Assessment. After submitting required proof (CPR/First Aid, experience or relevant degree), you can be referred to as a CPTN certified personal trainer (CPTN-CPT).

What value does CPTN certification provide – for trainers and clients?

CPTN certification ensures you have both sound scientific background (anatomy, physiology, program design) and real-world practical competency. It enhances trust, professional credibility, and improves employment opportunities – whether you work in a gym, wellness centre, or freelance.

How do I maintain my CPTN credential – and what are CECs?

CPTN credentials are renewed via Continuing Education Credits (CECs): 7 CECs for a 1-year renewal, or 14 CECs for a 2-year renewal. You can earn CECs through CPTN online courses, or workshops, online courses, conferences – or petition external courses (subject to approval). Updated CPR/First Aid certification and proof of CEC completion are required at renewal.
