FR1A: Ageless Mobility™ (WS)
Dr. Scott Sonnon, PhD
Today, people young and old are placing undue strain on their joints and muscles through improper and vigorous workouts, and they are hurting themselves more than ever before. Although popular fitness activities have immense physical benefits, they instead may lead to arthritis, joint, and ligament tears; chronic joint pain, and muscle strains.
Ageless Mobility™ is designed as a genetically-programmed sequence of movements, lubricating each joint, one at a time, until the entire body becomes fully flushed with essential nutrition. Many people throughout their lives are literally starved for this kind of critical movement! Once each joint is well-oiled and ready to move, soft, flowing yoga movements, easily learned, begin to release the body of chains of tension. This specific process assists in preventing daily aches and pains while helping to abate the onset of shoulder bursitis, elbow tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and lower back disc herniation, hip, knee and ankle strain. Simple breathing exercises, incorporated into the program, manage stress at a biochemical level while at the same time increasing core strength and improving gastrointestinal health.
Scott Sonnon, founder of RMAX International, multiple-time USA National Team Coach and International Martial Arts Champion, has developed Ageless Mobility™ as a highly effective health and fitness program designed for people of all ages and fitness levels. Whatever your level of fitness or health, you will benefit enormously from Ageless Mobility™.

FR1G: How to Create a Periodization Plan (WS)
Karsten Jensen, MSc, CHEK Practitioner Level 2, CHEK HLC L3
Periodization is the systematic variation of training variables with the purpose of achieving peak performance at a predetermined date. Many books have been written on the topic of periodization and various "models" (linear-, non linear, undulating, conjugated and block) have been suggested. The body of literature on periodization, however, is characterized by disagreements in terminology, bias towards certain types of sports (long vs. short competitive season), theoretical tables that are difficult to interpret into practice. In this workshop you will learn a completely flexible model of planning a long-term training cycle (16-20 weeks) that makes use of the fundamental and effective principles by which the body works.

SA1B Concurrent Training: Are muscles getting mixed messages? (L)
Dawnelle Hawes, MEd, RYT, CPTN-CPT.M
Perhaps one of the longest-lasting and most interesting debates for personal trainers has been about “effective” sequencing of cardiovascular and resistance training when combining the 2 modalities into a single workout (called concurrent training). This workshop discusses the adaptations involved when strength and endurance exercises occur in the same workout session. Participants will get an overview of the physiological adaptations and the latest evidence-based research, both positive and negative, of concurrent training. Finally, the workshop concludes with practical suggestions on the suitable application of concurrent training to program design for your clients.

SA2C R’s of Working with Obese Clients (L)
Dixie Douville, BA, RN, BSN
Reach, Retain and Results. These are 3 key components of developing a fitness program for an overweight and obese population. Many overweight and unconditioned clients think that exercise is “too hard” or that they have to lose weight before they can participate in an exercise program! Designing and implementing an exercise modality for this clientele includes non- to low-impact cardio, resistance training, and other appropriately modified activities. Learn how to assist your clients in understanding the weight loss potential and health benefits of a program that combines behavioural change and individual goal-setting into a successful outcome for clients.

SA3B Riding the "Silver Wave" (L)
Dixie Douville, BA, RN, BSN
Although it has been estimated that between 4.3 & 5.6 billion dollars in North America would be saved annually if 10% of sedentary adults began a walking program, still more than 2/3 of older adults do not engage in regular physical activity. It is well documented that exercise can help to prevent, or at least slow down, the degenerative effects of aging. As fitness trainers, we need to understand the effects of aging and how to safely train our older clients for optimum functional capacity and quality of life. Learn to work with a growing market of older adults looking for more activity.
SA3C The Physiology of Motivation: The Missing Link in Mind-Body Fitness (L)

Beyond behaviour-modification techniques, the missing link to motivation lies within the mind-body connection. Your approach to exercise and nutrition may be de-motivating your clients without you even knowing it! Discover how science is revealing that the right balance of exercise and nutrition can cultivate the brain chemistry necessary to enhance motivation in contrast to poor nutrition and too much of the wrong exercise that may actually turn off the motivational juices!

SA4C Boosting Metabolism with Energy Neutral Training (L)
David Sandler, MSc, CSCS, *D; CCS and Ed McNeely, MSc, CPT, CSCS
Many people focus their training on burning calories to lose body fat. This lecture will provide evidence that this may not be the best use of a training session for weight loss and it may, in fact, decrease metabolism and slow fat loss while simultaneously increasing muscle mass loss. We will present a new energy-neutral concept of weight loss that is being used with many top athletes who wish to optimize their body composition while still improving performance.
