Functional Applied Speed Training (F.A.S.T): Level 2 Workshop

Description

What is the Holy Grail of all sports performance? Speed! Learn methods of training other than the ordinary skips for speed development and the standard agility ladder drills for lateral speed development!

In Level 1 coaches and trainers are provided techniques, drills and methods for helping an athlete develop linear speed. This is in important skill that cannot be overlooked but most sports such as soccer, football, hockey, baseball, tennis are multi directional sports in which proper training methods must be used to optimize an athletes development.

The biomechanics of linear speed are completely different than the ones needed to become a successful multi-directional athlete!

In Level 2 coaches and athletes will engage in techniques for advanced speed drills such as overspeed and resistance methods to enhance linear speed and learn SST’s proven step by step method for improved multi directional speed.

The purpose of this workshop is to better educate trainers, coaches and athletes on how to improve lateral and linear speed by incorporating advanced methods that stimulate the muscular and nervous system.

All coaches in Level 2 will learn four different modules:

  1. Overspeed and Resistance Speed methods for linear and multidirectional sport athlete
  2. Agility Training Methods
  3. Plyometric Training
  4. Level Two Program Design methods

Proper integration of Overspeed and Resistance Methods for Improving Speed

Learn how SST implements the use of bungi cords, resistance bands and sleds for increased speed development. SST will show you the latest research on both methods and add in their own practical clinical approaches on how to integrate the use of Overspeed and resistance bands to make FAST athletes!

Coaches will learn:

  • When to periodize in an athlete’s training cycle
  • How to combine the two for maximum benefits
  • The safety regarding each method
  • What common errors one will see and how to identify and correct

Agility training and the Biomechanics for Multi Directional Sports

Ever wonder why an athlete may have a great agility time but have poor lateral speed on the field or ice? SST will teach you the reasons for this and how to overcome these issues.

Learn how to properly assess for multi directional sports and different methods for each sport. Find out what muscles are limiting your change of directional speed!

Discover why things like an agility ladder are a waste of time dependent upon an athlete’s training age. This may shock you!

Coaches will also be introduced to the different muscular systems and how they affect speed enhancement and their ability to transfer force.

Learn SST’s 4 step method of integration for coaching agility!

Learn SST’s step by step model on the proper mechanics of lateral speed and what to look for and how to correct them!

Each Coach will be shown the proper mechanics of:

  • Stopping
  • Deceleration
  • Acceleration

Plyometrics Development for a Multidirectional Athlete

All attendees will be exposed to:

  • The Principles and Neurophysiology of Plyometrics
  • The Three phases of Plyometric training
  • SST’s proper warm up for a plyometric workout
  • Coaches will learn how to properly determine what level of plyometrics an athlete should be at
  • SST’s method on how to properly assess an athlete’s ability for plyometrics
  • Learn how to use Plyometrics as an Energy System training protocol
  • Learn common mistakes coaches do and how you should avoid at all costs!
  • Discover how SST integrates plyometrics in an athlete’s training cycle
  • When to implement short vs long ground contact time?
  • The Sport Specific benefits of Plyometric training
  • Demonstration of the different types of Plyometric exercises

Level 2 Program Design - Methods and Periodization for the Multi Directional Athlete

Learn how to integrate the following methods in your athletes training cycle:

  • When and how to use Overspeed training
  • When and how to use resistance speed methods and the critical drop off point!
  • How to combine Overspeed and resistance training in one session for linear speed development
  • Discover how to use these valuable tools in an agility session
  • How to implement plyometrics in a training session
  • When to use plyometrics as an effective energy system workout
  • How to integrate lateral change of direction exercises
  • When to implement SST’s 4 step approach for multi directional sports

Requirements:

  • Notebooks, pen, pencil, paper etc...
